Easy Homemade Granola

A Note on This Recipe

This might be the easiest homemade granola you’ll ever make and it’s better than anything from a bag.

Store-bought granola is fine, but it’s usually too sweet, packed with ingredients you don’t need, or more crumble than cluster. This version fixes all of that. No coconut oil or specialty ingredients — just light olive oil and a touch of butter. Honey brings just enough sweetness, and the combination of oats and chopped nuts gives you real texture in every bite. Vanilla and cinnamon round everything out beautifully — don’t skip them. One pan, no special equipment, no mid-bake babysitting — just genuinely good granola you’ll want to keep on hand all the time.

How to Make It

Make the Seasoning Paste

Add the oil, butter, honey, vanilla, and cinnamon directly to your baking pan and mix until smooth and well combined. Mixing the wet ingredients first creates an even coating paste, so you get full coverage with less oil.

A brownie pan works great here — the high sides make it easy to mix and later break the granola without anything spilling over.

Add the Oats and Nuts

Add the rolled oats and chopped nuts and stir thoroughly until everything is evenly coated. Pecans and sliced almonds are a great combination — they add crunch and a warm, nutty flavor — but any nuts you like will work.

Press and Bake

Spread the mixture out evenly and press it down firmly with the back of a spoon or spatula. Aim for about a half-inch depth so it bakes through evenly without needing to be stirred or flipped. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 15 to 18 minutes, until lightly golden.

Cool and Break

Let the granola cool completely in the pan before breaking it up — this is what helps it clump and crisp. Once cooled, break into clusters or crumbles depending on how you like it, then transfer to an airtight container.

Ways to Eat It

This granola pairs well with just about anything —yogurt, applesauce, chia pudding, ice cream, or fresh fruit. It also works stirred into cereal, or packed as a trail mix.

Notes

Any neutral oil works in place of light olive oil. For the nuts, pecans and sliced almonds are a great combination, but substitute whatever you have on hand. Press the mixture down firmly before baking and resist breaking it up until it’s fully cooled — both steps are what give you clusters instead of crumbles. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
