Air Fryer Dutch Baby

A Note on This Recipe

A Dutch baby usually means heating a cast iron skillet, whisking batter by hand, and keeping a close eye on the oven — this version skips all of that.

All you need is a personal blender and an air fryer, and the whole thing comes together in about 15 minutes including prep. The batter takes seconds to blend, and the air fryer does the rest — giving you those signature puffed, golden edges and a soft, custardy center without ever turning on the oven. A squeeze of lemon and a dusting of powdered sugar at the end is all it really needs, though fresh berries and maple syrup never hurt.

How to Make It

Gather the Ingredients

This recipe is sized perfectly for a personal blender. Add the ingredients to the blender cup in this order: half-and-half, flour, sugar, vanilla, salt, and egg — adding the egg last helps keep things from sticking to the blade.

Blend the Batter

Blend on low speed for about 10 seconds, or just until combined. The batter should be smooth and thin but a few tiny lumps are acceptable. Let the batter rest briefly while heating the butter.

Preheat the Butter

Set your air fryer to 400°F (204°C) for a total of 10 minutes. This includes both heating the butter and cooking the Dutch baby. Adjust time as needed based on your air fryer model.

You’ll need a thick, oven-safe dish that fits comfortably in your air fryer basket (approximately 6 inches in diameter). Add butter to the dish and carefully place it in the air fryer basket. Heat for about 2 minutes — you’re looking for the butter to be fully melted, bubbling, and just starting to turn golden at the edges. That’s your cue to pour in the batter.

Remove the basket from the air fryer (keep the air fryer on) and evenly pour the batter over the hot butter.

Cook and Serve

Cook for 7 minutes, or until the edges are puffed and golden brown. Let cool slightly before removing from the basket.

Enhance the flavor by squeezing a lemon wedge over the warm Dutch baby. Generously dust with powdered sugar for sweetness. Serve with maple syrup and fresh berries on the side.

  4. Let cool slightly, then finish with lemon juice, powdered sugar, and your favorite toppings before serving.
